What are some good things to know when visiting our Family Farm?

  • Wear closed toe shoes

  • Dress appropriately; wear a hat because that Texas sun can get hot out in the fields!

When is the best time to come pick Strawberries?

 

  • Strawberries are seasonal, and are only available during certain times of the year. â€‹
     

Strawberry Picking

 

  • Always check before coming, as sometimes the fields get picked over for the day and need time to replenish.  

  • Here at our Family Farm, we love, love, love strawberries!  Better than candy is organically grown, pesticide-free red strawberries.  Our strawberry picking is fun for both adults and kids. Every season we have folks compliment us on the quality of our strawberries and the beauty of our farm. And, some folks have now made our farm an annual tradition to come and pick strawberries.

Here are some things to remember about strawberry picking:

  • We usually have strawberries available from February through June but because of our beautiful Texas weather we have strawberries off and on year round.

  • You may want to wear a hat to cover the back of your neck as the Texas sun can be intense during those months.

  • Only select firm, fully red strawberries.

  • Pick only fully ripen strawberries as they don’t continue to ripen once picked.

  • Strawberries can be frozen.  Just wash and cut the tops off and store in a freezer bag with as much air removed as possible.​

Fun facts about strawberries:

  • There are only 49 calories in one cup of strawberries.

  • It only takes around 15 minutes to pick one quart of strawberries.

  • In the early 1900s, strawberry popularity began starting in California.  Europe starting growing strawberries in the 1300s.

  • Each strawberry averages about 200 tiny seeds.

  • Strawberry picking is one of the most popular fruits folks like to pick.

Blackberry Picking

  • Always check before coming, as sometimes the fields get picked over for the day and need time to replenish.   

  • Our Family Farm is known for their delicious strawberries.  But, did you know we also grow fantastic blackberries? That’s right! Come to our farm and pick fresh, all naturally grown blackberries for you and your family.  As we like to say:  “Better than candy is organically grown, pesticide-free blackberries”. Our blackberry bushes are healthy and beautiful.  We take great pride and all we grow on our farm.

Here are some things to remember about blackberry picking:

  • Blackberries are usually available from April thru July and then again from September until November.

  • You may want to wear a hat to cover the back of your neck as the Texas sun can be intense during those months.

  • Only select firm, fully blackberries.  Don’t pick any red or green ones as they will be ready in a day or two.

  • Blackberries can be frozen.  Just wash and store in a freezer bag with as much air removed as possible.

  • There are only 62 calories in one cup of blackberries.

  • Blackberries are rich in bioflavonoids and Vitamin C.

  • Blackberries have been used to treat mild inflammation of the gums and sometimes even sore throats.

  • There are 2000 varieties of blackberries found throughout the world.

  • Blackberries are also known as brambles.

  • During World War I, children in England were given time off school to collect blackberries for the production of juice that was sent to soldiers to help maintain their health.

Pumpkin Picking

  • Always check before coming, as sometimes the fields get picked over for the day and need time to replenish.   

  • Our pumpkins come in all shapes and sizes!  And our pumpkin patch proves this every year. Folks from Houston, Magnolia, Tomball, The Woodlands, Conroe and even College Station love coming to our farm.

  • There is nothing like picking a fresh pumpkin straight off the vine. Carve them, turn them into pie or roast the seeds for a healthy snack. We never use pesticides and we farm using organic methods.

  • In addition to pumpkins, we also have beautiful gourds.

Fun Facts about pumpkins:

  • Pumpkins don’t just come in the color orange.  Pumpkins can sometimes be white, green and even red!

  • The Greek word for pumpkin is pepon which means “large melon”.

  • Pumpkins are a fruit.

  • In just the United States, over 1 billion pounds of pumpkins are grown.

  • Each pumpkin has approximately 500 seeds.

  • There are over 45 pumpkin varieties.

  • Pumpkins are 90% water.

  • The pumpkin capital of the world is Morton, Illinois. Why? Because you will find the Libby Corporation there. 😉

  • Pumpkins are a good source of Vitamin A and Potassium.

  • The scientific name for pumpkins is Cucurbita pepo, with “pepo” meaning “to ripen in the sun.”

  • When pumpkins were first grown in the U.S., they were used more for feeding livestock than for eating.

  • Today, pumpkins are mostly used for making pies or carving into jack-o-lanterns.

  • You can eat pumpkin flowers!  They are edible.

Field Trips​

  • Be sure when you make your reservation that you select how many people will be on the field trip. Admission is $8 per person. If you do not make your reservation for the correct number of people, it could affect entrance and availability.  

  • NO CHARGE FOR TEACHERS WITH GROUPS OF CHILDREN.  

  • When you bring your group to our farm they are in for a real treat.  We offer Garden Tours where both students and teachers get to taste, smell and learn about our farm. Our field trips are designed to be educational and fun. Tours are $8 (all ages) and include a 45-minute tour plus 1 hour of free time, AND a box for picking strawberries (when in season). Students and teachers can use that time to play, pick berries or pumpkins, and shop our store. 

  • We have picnic tables so bring your lunch.  In addition, we have a playground area, a country store with cold drinks and homemade jams and honey for sale.

Fishing - Catfish

  • At our Family Farm our pond is stocked and ready for you! Fishing doesn’t get any better than fishing in our pond. Our custom pier jets out onto the pond letting you cast in any direction. You can also walk around parts of the pond and fish from the edge. It’s a great place to bring the kids and teach them how to fish.​

  • Nothing tastes better than freshly caught catfish.  Come on out and fish in our catfish pond.  Take home what you catch for just $5/lb. The first 6 lbs are included with your admission price. 

  • Our catfish pond is open 7 days a week from 8:00 am till 5:00 pm. Please  bring your own equipment. Everyone must wear a life jacket/preserver. 

  • Adults (14 years and older) cost $15 per hour and children (5 to 13 years old) just $10. Two hours minimum. Children under the age of 4 fish free with one adult admission.

Fishing - Bass

  • Our catch and release pond is open 7 days a week from 8:00 am till 5:00 pm. Please  bring your own equipment. Only barbless hooks or lures are allowed. Everyone must wear a life jacket/preserver.

  • Adults (14 years and older) cost $15 an hour and children (5 to 13 years old) just $10. Two hours minimum. Children under the age of 4 fish free with one adult admission.
